NFL star rookie breaks Hall of Famer’s 63-year-old record

The Las Vegas Raiders tight end on Sunday broke Mike Ditka’s record for single-season receiving yards by a rookie tight end (1,076), which the Pro Football Hall of Famer set in 1961 with the Chicago Bears. Bowers eclipsed the mark with a 13-yard catch late in the second quarter of a 25-10 win against the New Orleans Saints.

He finished the day with seven catches for 77 yards.

In the third quarter, Bowers also surpassed the single-season rookie receptions record set by Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua (105) last year.

Bowers, the No. 13 overall pick of the 2024 NFL draft out of Georgia, already set the single-season record for receptions by a rookie tight end earlier in December. He entered the day with 101 catches for 1,067 yards and four touchdowns.
